BTMS – a versatile ingredient for hair and skin
BTMS is one of the most versatile and effective ingredients in natural hair and skin care. This gentle emulsifier and conditioner leaves hair soft, manageable and shiny while being gentle on both hair and skin. We use BTMS in all of our shampoo bars and conditioner bars to give you professional results with natural ingredients.
What is BTMS?
BTMS stands for Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol. It is a combination of two ingredients that together create a gentle and effective conditioner. Despite the name "methosulfate," BTMS is not a sulfate and is much milder than traditional sulfates. In fact, it is one of the gentlest conditioners available.
How does BTMS work?
BTMS works in several ways:
- Conditioning – Makes hair soft and manageable
- Emulsifier – Mixes oil and water in products
- Antistatic – Reduces static electricity and frizz
- Detanglers – Makes hair easier to detangle
- Forms a film – Creates a protective barrier on the hair
Benefits of BTMS for hair
1. Makes hair soft and silky
BTMS conditions the hair and makes it soft, silky and manageable. The hair becomes pleasant to the touch and feels fresh.
2. Reduces tangled hair
BTMS makes hair much easier to detangle. It reduces tangles and makes combing and brushing easier, which reduces hair loss from breakage.
3. Reduces frizz and static electricity
BTMS has antistatic properties that reduce frizz and static electricity. Hair becomes more manageable, especially in dry air or in winter.
4. Gives shine
BTMS closes the hair cuticles and creates a smooth surface that reflects light. The hair becomes shiny and looks healthy.
5. Protects hair
BTMS forms a thin, protective film on the hair that protects against environmental damage, heat and mechanical stress from styling.
6. Improves the feeling
Hair feels softer, silkier and more manageable after using products with BTMS. It's a noticeable difference that lasts.
7. Gentle and gentle
Unlike many other conditioners, BTMS is very mild and gentle. It does not irritate the scalp and is suitable for sensitive skin.
Benefits of BTMS for the skin
BTMS is also good for the skin:
- Softens – Makes skin soft and supple
- Mild emulsifier – Creates stable, creamy products
- Non-irritating – Suitable for sensitive skin
- Improves texture – Gives products a luxurious feel
- Aids absorption – Allows other ingredients to penetrate better
Why BTMS is suitable for all hair types
BTMS is universal and suitable for all hair types:
- Dry hair – Conditions and softens
- Oily hair – Lightweight, doesn't weigh down
- Curly hair – Reduces frizz and defines
- Fine hair – Provides softness without weighing down
- Thick hair – Makes hair manageable
- Sensitive Scalp – Mild and non-irritating
BTMS vs. silicones
Many traditional conditioners use silicones to make hair soft. BTMS is a more natural alternative with several benefits:
- Does not build up – Unlike silicones which can build up on the hair
- Easier to wash out – Does not require sulfates to remove
- More natural – Derived from rapeseed
- Biodegradable – Better for the environment
- Allows hair to breathe – Does not clog hair
